Samsung Electronics launches new LED product

May 27, 2021

By Baek Byung-yeul

Samsung Electronics has rolled out a new LED product, called LM301B EVO, for interior and industrial use that boasts the highest level of energy efficiency and color quality in the industry, the company said Thursday.

The energy efficiency and color quality of a lighting product are measured as luminous efficacy, and LM301B EVO LED features the highest luminous efficacy in the industry ― 235 lumens per watt ― according to Samsung.

Color quality-wise, the company added that the new product is suitable for different kinds of places, ranging from schools and offices, to warehouses with high ceilings.

"Our new LM301B EVO offers an unrivaled mix of light efficacy and color rendering that aligns nicely with the changing landscape of LED lighting standards," said Kim Un-soo, senior vice president of the LED Business Team at Samsung Electronics. "Samsung will continue to provide value-added LED light sources through technological innovation, as we push hard to exceed energy standards around the world."

When using the LED package, manufacturers can create lamps that qualify for the European Union's energy-related products directive's (ErP) Grade A certification, as well as meet the latest V5.1 Premium requirements of the Design Lights Consortium (DLC), a non-profit organization for lighting standards in the U.S. and Canada, the company added.

The LED packages are used in products including outdoor and indoor lighting, vehicles, displays and mobile devices. Market tracker Omdia predicted that the global LED market is expected to grow to $14.3 billion in 2025 from $12.5 billion in 2020, with an annual average growth rate of 2.8 percent.

With the new product, Samsung aims to improve its share of the LED lighting market, especially for indoor purposes. In the global LED lighting market last year, products for indoor and outdoor lighting accounted for the largest proportion of 36 percent, followed by LEDs for TVs and mobile devices at 20 percent, and for vehicles at 18 percent.
