BMW will launch its 3 Series compact luxury sedans here in March to attract drivers with its improved performance.

According to the German automaker, the new 3 Series is the seventh generation of the iconic sedan, which have been sold more than 15 million times worldwide.

First unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October, the fully-changed model has a slightly bigger and longer body than its predecessor. Its wheelbase is also 4.1 centimeters longer in order to improve balance and agility.

Despite its bigger size, the new model is up to 55 kilograms lighter than the previous model, thanks to the new chassis and body structure.

The 3 Series comes with five engines which all meets Euro 6 standards for emissions of nitrogen oxides and other pollutants, the carmaker said. It has two gasoline models ― 320i yielding 184 horsepower and the 330i with 258 horsepower ― and three diesel models ― the 318d with 150 horsepower, the 320d with 190 horsepower and the 330d with 265 horsepower.

"The new body structure and chassis were designed to prioritize the 3 Series' agile and precise steering," a BMW Korea official said.

The 3 Series features new advanced driver assist technologies, which include front collision warning, active cruise control and lane keep assistance.

Highlighting the new technologies is its debuting Intelligent Personal Assistant, which was first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. The technology allows the driver to communicate with the car through voice command and get assistance in driving from the artificial intelligence.

The 3 Series sedan will be available worldwide in March and begin sales in Korea soon after its global release. BMW Korea did not unveil the prices yet.

Meanwhile, BMW Korea said it started receiving pre-orders for the X7 flagship SUV. It will unveil the luxury SUV at its BMW Driving Center on Yeongjong Island in Incheon, with a plan to launch it in the second quarter of this year. The price starts from 124.8 million won to 162.4 million won depending on trim.
