Renault Samsung Motors' Renault 5 EV Concept Car received the grand prize in the passenger car category at the 2021 Future Mobility of the Year Awards (FMOTY Awards), held at the automaker's Seoul office, Saturday.
"The Renault 5 EV concept car is the future car of the Renault Group that expresses the past and future of Renault and represents new mobility in the era of electric vehicles," Dominic Signora, CEO of Renault Samsung Motors, said.

The awards ceremony was held in the presence of Signora, Kwon Sang-soon, the director of Renault Technology Korea, Lee Kwang-hyung, the president of KAIST, and Jang In-kwon, the dean of KAIST's Graduate School of Green Transportation.

Signora received the grand prize on behalf of Renault Group, and Gilles Vidal, Renault Group's design director, who is in charge of the design of the Renault brand, gave a video of his acceptance speech.

"I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of the Renault Design Center to receive this meaningful award," Renault Group Brand Design Director Gilles Vidal said.

The 2021 Future Mobility Award, which marks its third anniversary this year, has awarded 46 concept cars from around the world that were unveiled at the World Automobile Exhibition, from 2020 to the first quarter of 2021.

The Renault 5 EV concept car contains Renault's future strategy, which was introduced by the Renault Group at the beginning of this year, when the group announced its new management strategy, "Renaulution." The design of the Renault 5 concept car was inspired by the Renault 5 subcompact passenger automobile, which was first launched in 1972 and sold more than 5.5 million units worldwide through 1985, establishing itself as a symbol of France.

Renault Group has implemented its "Renaulution" management strategy and plans to focus on creating revenue and generating cash by 2023, while strengthening its product lineup by 2025.

Renault Group plans to transform its business model into an innovative company centered on technology, energy and mobility. The company also announced that out of a total of 24 models scheduled to be released by 2025, half will be C- and D-segment cars, and more than 10 models will be EVs.
